What do y'all think of the previews?
I watched the DS Revival (1991) on Netflix and thought it was amazing and going at the movie from that POV I'm not too sure about it, but it does have Johnny Depp in it, so I'm definitely seeing it.

Yeah I'ma see it when it comes out. Not sure it'll be completely my thing, but it's Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and vampires, so yeah... gotta see.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It doesn't look anything like what I know of Dark Shadows (original & revival) but it's Burton & Johnny Depp so it's gotta be good on some level...

Yeah, that's the right way to put it Even if it's not all that, it's at least got some elements that usually make sure it's entertaining enough. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Hi Ali!!! *HUG*
I never really watched the original series, but I know the look of it.
And of course this has Depp & Vamps, so...
But I expect we'll download it. No hurry to see it.

The revival seemed so much darker than the preview for the movie seems. Maybe it's more in line with the original... which from everything I've read was popular but I don't actually know anyone who saw it.. Which makes me sad because I want to know everything.
I saved my cinema giftcard I got for Christmas special for this movie. Definitely seeing it in theatres

I've managed to download like 200 eps of the 1966 tv show... But like the classic Doctor Who and all other sixties tv shows it's a bit slow... Somehow it feels like shows of today make a lot more progress in one episode...

It was a Vampire "soap opera". A "Daytime Drama". Not just a TV series with Vampire characters. That's why it's slow. For "Dramatic effect". I remember some of my friends would dash home from school, so they wouldn't miss Dark Shadows. I never bothered to watch it.
From what little I've seen of previews, it looks like they made the new one a bit "campy". Added some comedy. I have a feeling that fans of the Original series won't like it, other than for seeing Johnny D., and even then, it's "iffy".
For instance, I really liked the 21 Jump Street TV series. I have NO interest in seeing the movie. It looks stupid.
I REALLY HATE when they remake a movie (or TV series) and CHANGE it. If they're going to change it, they *should* CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE! Grrrrr!

I know, right? I'm not a huge fan of camp. Or, I should rephrase that. In the right movie I am a HUGE fan of camp, (I spent a large part of the winter rewatching Frankie & Annette beach party movies & Rock Hudson & Doris Day comedies) but given the choice between dark and camp, I'll go with dark any day of the week, and I think I'd be more enthusiastic about DS if seemed darker. I dunno, maybe the preview is, as one film major suggested, misleading, but right now I'm kind of wishing I'd watched the revivial series AFTER the movie. Then at least I wouldn't be going into it with preconceived ideas about what the movie is *supposed* to be.

I like campy. But like you, Joy, I am definetly AVOIDING the 21 Jump Street movie. I loved the series for what it was - a series about undercover cops in the high schools. I saw the trailers, and I read some stuff about it, and that's what turned me off about it - when I read that the intent was to make it into a comedy. But I think I might like Dark Shadows. I've seen some of the original series stuff, and I've seen the revival series, and I liked them both a lot - but the reasons that I liked then a lot was because I could see the potential for a comedy here. Fans of the soap-opera drama will most likely burn Tim Burton in effigy, though. I will definetly be seeing that one way or the other.

Oh, I *do* plan to see it. Eventually. I just have to think of it as a different "critter" than the series. I love Johnny, so I expect I'll enjoy the movie well enough.
btw - Did the rest of you hear that Jonathan Frid passed away recently? (One site says 4/13, another says 4/20... ) Apparently, there is a Party scene in the movie, where many of the original TV series cast members make a Cameo. Jonathan was one of them!
